Vale Youth Speakup

Vale Youth Speak Up is a group of up to young learning disabled children and young people aged between 16- 25. They work to highlight and tackle the issues of discrimination and bullying facing young people with disabilities. A major objective of the project is to empower and facilitate young people's involvement in decision making processes. The group has used innovative methods to send the message that people with disabilities can excel when they are listened to and given the right support.

They consult with other young people, run workshops in the community, speak up at Local l Levels through the Vale Youth Forum, go on trips in this country and abroad through the Erasmum Youth In Action programme, promote the UNCRC Rights of the Child in schools and deliver disability awareness training to other young people in school and professionals on disability.

The group has made 2 community films about scenarios they've experienced. The first film was The Rights Fighters for which they were awarded the prestigious Philip Lawrence award and the sequel Rights Fighters II which was short listed for the Zoom Young Filmmakers Awards 2013. The group has also achieved the quality assurance "National Children and Young Peoples Participation Kitemark for Wales.
