Old Television

Barry has been the place where several great TV programmes have been filmed. Often when we are out and about we have seen film crews and filing taking place. Exciting!

Gavin & Stacey

Filmed in Barry and Dinas Powys at several locations –

The series follows the romance between Gavin, from Billericay in Essex, and Stacey, from Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, in South Wales. Gavin lives with his parents, Pam and Mick, and spends most of his time with his best friend, Smithy. Barry Island also features heavily in this series as the wonderful Nessa works in the arcade!

Being Human

Being Human was filmed at Barry Island for Series 3 in 2011. It is a comedy and horror drama series. The series is based around a ghost, werewolf and vampire who share a house and want to live a normal life. They try very hard to fit in with the normal human beings around them. The house – Honolulu Heights was a bed and breakfast on Barry Island. The show ran between 2008 and 2013.

Dr Who

The Dr Who series Delta and the Bannermen was filmed at Barry Island in 1987 & 2005. Aliens that are called the Bannermen track down the Chimeron Queen Delta to a Welsh holiday camp in 1959 (Butlins then later Majestics at Barry island) so they can kill her.

Several scenes of the Doctor Who episodes called The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances were filmed at the Vale of Glamorgan railway sites at Plymouth Road and Barry Island in January 2005

An old railway tunnel on Barry Island, which is now used as a shooting range, was once again utilised by a Doctor Who film crew. The tunnel was previously used as the underground bunker in the Series 4 Doctor Who episode The Doctor’s Daughter. The shooting range in the tunnel was used in the Torchwood episode Ghost machine.
